Welcome Statement

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

-Dr. Seuss

Hello, everyone! My name is Keyla Lopez and I am delighted to welcome you to the school year 2020-2021 at Boston School International. I am working hard to ensure that there are many wonderful opportunities for our students to excel and enjoy this year to the fullest. Even though we are living unprecedented times, I promise a year full of fun, learning, and growth through the study of the English language, literature, and TOK.

Biography

I am an enthusiastic English teacher with more than twelve years of experience in education. My passion for literature has led me to teach English Language Arts and the IB English A literature course from the Diploma Program in BSI. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English with an emphasis on literature from the Universidad de Costa Rica and  I also earned a Master's degree in TESOL. I began my teaching career in a higher education institution in my home country, Costa Rica,  where I also earned a Cambridge teaching certification. Then I moved to Panama with my family and decided to embark on a new adventure when I joined Boston School seven years ago. I consider myself a dedicated and committed full-time teacher and I am constantly learning and improving to benefit my students.

Job Description

My responsibilities as a high school English and literature teacher include planning lessons and developing engaging activities, reading and understanding all prescribed texts, offering academic support to students, and ensuring a safe learning environment, in part assessing student needs and providing support or extra resources to struggling students as well as exceptional achievers.
It also involves great use of technology to improve lesson delivery and recordkeeping.
Additionally, I am the mentor of the Drama club and along with the other members of the club, I organize BSI's yearly presentations.
As the school’s SAT coordinator, I am in charge of organizing the successful administration of the test throughout the school year.
I frequently participate in workshops, lectures, and other learning opportunities.

Sincerely,
