Welcome Communicators - Class 5.1!
I am Mrs. Emelida Acosta. I will be your child’s 5th grade homeroom teacher for the 2020-2021 academic school year. I want to welcome you and your child. I am looking forward to meeting you and learning more about your child. I am a passionate teacher and I believe learning should be interactive, engaging, and creative. My goal is to do my best to support your child in order for him/her to succeed this school year.
I believe education is not a one-size-fits-all discipline; it's essential that my approach is tailored to the specific learning needs of each student. I get to know the students as individuals so I can appropriately support and challenge them academically. I expect students should be self-directed learners, engaged in their natural environment, and able to be curious about the material presented so that their learning could go on to the next level.
In our fifth grade class this year, we will cover Bridges in mathematics. The curriculum focuses on developing students’ deep understandings of math concepts, proficiency with key skills, and their ability to solve complex problems. We will also be using Number Corner a skill-building program that revolves around the classroom calendar. In literacy, we will be using Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Workshops to help students grow as readers and writers. Lastly, Science A-Z will be used to provide you with some curriculum resources for informational texts, hands-on experiments, and other engaging learning opportunities.
Fifth grade will be filled with fun, LOTS of learning, and NEW adventures!
